1. Introduction

Welcome to describe.me ("Service", "Platform", "we," "us," or "our"). By creating an account and using our service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions ("Terms"). These terms apply to all users of our platform, including professionals and recruiters.

2. Definitions

  • User: Any individual who registers and creates an account on our platform
  • Professional: A user who creates a profile to be matched with job opportunities and career advancement
  • Recruiter: A user who creates a profile to search for job candidates, post opportunities, and engage with potential hires
  • Company Profile: Business entity profile created by recruiters to represent their organization
  • Profile Data: Information provided by users about their experience, skills, qualifications, career aspirations, and professional background
  • Unlock: The action by which a recruiter accesses (unlocks) a professional's contact details and CV, following mutual interest
  • Platform Communication: Notifications and service messages sent by describe.me to users (e.g. job match alerts, account updates, support correspondence)

3. User Categories and Specific Terms

3.1 Professional Terms

Profile Creation and Accuracy

  • You agree to provide accurate, complete, and current information in your profile
  • You are responsible for maintaining and updating your profile information
  • You understand that your profile may be viewed by verified recruiters on our platform

Role Matching and Communication

  • You consent to receiving job match notifications based on your profile preferences
  • You understand that expressing interest in a job opportunity may reveal your contact information to the recruiting company
  • You agree to respond professionally to legitimate recruitment communications

Professional Conduct

  • You will not create multiple accounts or provide false information
  • You will not use the platform for any purpose other than legitimate personal career development
  • You agree to treat all recruiters and platform communications with professionalism

3.2 Recruiter Terms

Recruiter-specific terms and conditions, including company verification requirements, candidate search and data handling, billing, referral programmes, and professional communication standards, are provided separately during the company verification process. By completing verification you agree to be bound by those additional terms.

4. Code of Conduct and Prohibited Activities

4.1 General Conduct Requirements

All users must:

  • Treat other users with respect and professionalism
  • Use the platform only for legitimate career and recruitment purposes
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information shared through the platform
  • Report inappropriate behavior or platform abuse

4.2 Prohibited Activities

Users are strictly prohibited from:

  • Spamming: Sending unsolicited, bulk, or irrelevant messages
  • Harassment: Engaging in any form of harassment, discrimination, or inappropriate contact
  • Data Misuse: Extracting, storing, or using platform data for unauthorized purposes
  • False Representation: Providing false information about identity, company, or job opportunities
  • Platform Abuse: Attempting to circumvent security measures or platform limitations
  • Commercial Misuse: Using the platform for non-recruitment commercial activities
  • Automated Activity: Using bots, scrapers, or automated tools without explicit permission

4.3 Anti-Spam and Quality Standards

For Recruiters:

  • All job opportunities must be genuine and currently available
  • Job descriptions must be specific, detailed, and accurately represent the role
  • No bait-and-switch tactics or misleading job postings

Contact Standards:

  • describe.me is an introduction service: once contact details have been shared, recruiters must make clear at the point of first contact that the introduction came via describe.me, so professionals know our service is working on their behalf
  • Outreach must reference specific aspects of the candidate's profile — generic templates or copy-paste approaches are prohibited
  • Contacts must clearly state the job opportunity and the hiring company
  • Professional courtesy is expected on every contact initiated through a describe.me introduction

5. Data Collection, Processing and Usage

5.1 Profile Data Processing

We collect and process profile data to:

  • Create comprehensive professional profiles for matching purposes
  • Enable sophisticated job-candidate matching algorithms
  • Facilitate professional networking and career development
  • Provide analytics and insights to improve platform effectiveness
  • Ensure platform security and prevent fraudulent activity

5.2 Communication and Interaction Data

We collect and process communication data to:

  • Facilitate secure communication between users
  • Monitor compliance with platform terms and conduct standards
  • Improve matching accuracy based on interaction patterns
  • Provide customer support and resolve disputes
  • Generate aggregate statistics and platform improvements

5.3 Recruiter Usage Analytics

We collect data about recruiter activities to:

  • Track recruitment success rates and platform effectiveness
  • Provide insights on hiring trends and market conditions
  • Ensure compliance with professional conduct standards
  • Optimize search algorithms and candidate recommendations
  • Generate reports for platform improvement and business development

5.4 Outcome Tracking

We require and collect outcome data to:

  • Measure platform success rates and candidate satisfaction
  • Improve matching algorithms based on successful placements
  • Provide market insights and recruitment analytics
  • Demonstrate platform value to both candidates and recruiters
  • Ensure accountability in the recruitment process

6. Your Rights Under GDPR and Data Protection

As a user, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: Request access to your personal data and processing activities
  • Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Erasure: Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Restriction: Request limitation of processing in certain circumstances
  • Portability: Request a copy of your data in a structured format
  • Objection: Object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Consent Withdrawal: Withdraw consent for optional data processing at any time

Important Note: Some data may be retained for legitimate business purposes, legal compliance, or to maintain platform security even after account deletion.

7. Data Sharing and Privacy

7.1 Candidate-Recruiter Data Sharing

  • Professional profiles are searchable by verified recruiters using our platform
  • Initially, only anonymized or limited profile data is visible to recruiters
  • Full contact information is revealed only when mutual interest is established
  • Once you accept a recruiter's interest, the recruiter's company retains access to your contact details and profile for as long as your profile remains on describe.me
  • Deleting your account removes this access along with your data
  • Candidates maintain control over their visibility and contact preferences

7.2 Recruiter Information Sharing

  • Company profiles and job postings are visible to relevant professionals
  • Company verification status and reputation metrics may be displayed to candidates

7.3 Third-Party Service Providers

We may share necessary data with service providers for:

  • Platform hosting and technical infrastructure
  • Email and communication delivery
  • Payment processing (recruiter billing)
  • Analytics and platform improvement
  • Security and fraud prevention

All service providers are bound by strict data protection agreements.

7.4 Legal and Regulatory Disclosure

We may disclose information when required by:

  • Legal process or court orders
  • Regulatory investigations or compliance requirements
  • Protection of user safety or platform security
  • Prevention of fraud or illegal activities

8. Platform Communications and Notifications

8.1 Consent to Communications

By creating an account, you agree to receive:

  • Service notifications about platform activity and matches
  • Updates about your profile, account status, and platform features
  • Essential service announcements and security notifications
  • Outcome tracking requests and follow-up surveys

8.2 Communication Preferences

  • You can manage notification preferences in your account settings
  • Some essential communications cannot be disabled while maintaining an active account
  • You may opt out of promotional communications while retaining service notifications

8.3 Candidate-Recruiter Communication

  • describe.me facilitates introductions only; direct communication between candidates and recruiters takes place outside the platform once mutual interest has been established and contact details have been shared
  • External communication is permitted after mutual agreement

9. Account Management and Verification

9.1 Account Security

Users are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of account credentials
  • Promptly updating account information when circumstances change
  • Reporting suspected security breaches or unauthorized access
  • Using strong passwords and enabling available security features

9.2 Identity and Company Verification

  • All users may be subject to identity verification processes
  • Recruiters must undergo company verification before accessing candidate profiles
  • We reserve the right to request additional verification documentation
  • Unverified accounts may have limited platform access

9.3 Account Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts for:

  • Violation of these Terms and Conditions
  • Suspected fraudulent activity or security breaches
  • Failure to complete required verification processes
  • Reported harassment or inappropriate behavior
  • Extended periods of inactivity

10. Platform Fees

  • describe.me is free for professionals — we do not bill professional users for use of the platform
  • Recruiter fees and payment terms are provided separately during the company verification process

11. Intellectual Property and Content

11.1 Platform Content

  • describe.me retains ownership of platform design, algorithms, and proprietary technology
  • Users retain ownership of their original profile content and submissions
  • By using the platform, users grant us necessary licenses to provide our services

11.2 User Content Standards

  • All uploaded content must be original or properly licensed
  • Users must not upload copyrighted material without permission
  • Content must be professional and appropriate for a recruitment platform

12. Limitation of Liability and Disclaimers

12.1 Service Availability

  • The platform is provided "as is" without guarantees of uninterrupted service
  • We do not guarantee specific job placement or hiring outcomes
  • Technical issues or maintenance may temporarily affect service availability

12.2 User Interactions

  • We are not responsible for the actions or communications of individual users
  • We do not guarantee the accuracy of user-provided information
  • Users interact with each other at their own risk and discretion

12.3 Third-Party Services

  • We are not responsible for the performance or policies of third-party services
  • Links to external websites or services are provided for convenience only
  • Users should review the terms and privacy policies of external services

12.4 Learning Recommendations and Affiliate Links

As part of your skills gap analysis, we may suggest external online courses from third-party learning providers to help you address identified skill gaps. Some of these recommendations are presented as affiliate links, clearly labelled as such on each course card. This means:

  • We may receive a commission if you subscribe to or purchase a course after clicking one of these links
  • The commission does not change the price you pay
  • Course recommendations are selected based on relevance to your identified skill gaps; commercial relationships do not influence which gaps we surface or how we present suggested courses
  • Third-party course providers are independent businesses; describe.me is not responsible for the quality, availability, accuracy, or outcome of any third-party course
  • Your use of any third-party course is governed by that provider's own terms and privacy policy, which you should review before subscribing

We may record outbound clicks to learning providers to measure which recommendations users find useful and to improve future suggestions. This tracking uses pseudonymised identifiers only — your name, email address, and other directly-identifying information are not shared with course providers through these links.

13. Dispute Resolution and Governing Law

13.1 Dispute Resolution Process

  • Users should first attempt to resolve disputes through our customer support
  • We encourage good faith efforts to resolve conflicts amicably
  • Formal dispute resolution procedures are available for unresolved issues

13.2 Governing Law

  • These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales
  • Any legal proceedings must be conducted in the courts of England and Wales

These Terms and Conditions constitute a legally binding agreement between you and describe.me. If you do not agree to these terms, you should not create an account or use our platform.
